I've created a short video using Animoto.com and pictures from Flickr.com - I hope that the Year 9 pupils going to Málaga this monthh will be able to create something similar using their own photos from the visit.

European Day of Languages
Well what a day! Staff responded to the challenge of speaking as many foreign languages as possible and students were very generous in their awarding of merits. I have my suspicions that there was some vote rigging going on but will announce the winners on Monday. Watch out to see if you won the star prize!
Year 7 took part in a quiz about European countries and languages and Year 9 learnt how to say I love you in 12 different languages in their assembly. How romantic. Just right if you meet your Juan/Juanita in a million!
Year 10 created videos using the new digi suite and green room technology. I'll post some on the blog once they've been edited. Some even created their own gizmoz characters. I'm off to lie down.

The Return of Luke - he's back!
Welcome back Luke Trevan, who is working in the MFL department as part of the Student Associates' Scheme, assisting in classes and developing materials. Luke has recently graduated from Bath University after spending a year in Spain studying chemistry. Adelante Luke.
Hola Señora Barnes
The MFL dep't is delighted to welcome back Mrs Barnes who will be taking Mrs Graham's classes during her maternity leave. ¡Bienvenida Señora Barnes!
Mrs Barnes will be very familiar to students and staff as she has previously worked at Helston Community College, first as Spanish assistant, then as Teaching Assistant and now having successfully completed her SCITT course as a languages teacher!

¡Viva Málaga!
We were delighted to receive a visit from students and teachers of our Spanish partner school IES Juan Ramón Jímenez this week. The Spanish group have enjoyed taking part in a variety of activities including Spanish speed dating with Year 8, card games in English and Spanish with Year 10, volleyball and football and of course visiting lots of the attractions in Cornwall including Eden, and St Michael's Mount. We look forward to paying a return visit next Year.
Newsday 2008 ¡Enhorabuena!
¡Enhorabuena! Congratulations! to Year 12 for winning the best in the KS5 podcasting category at the Newsday 2008 Awards ceremony which took place last Friday at the Guardian Newsroom in London. The students created a podcast in Spanish and English based on giving advice for healthy living. Prizes awarded to the podcasters included £250 of Softease materials for the MFL department. We hope to receive a digital camera, usb microphones and memory sticks to help our students create and record yet more activities!
